Why Aren't Animal And Factory Farms Regulated?

cow-and-calf.bmp

Factory farms (also known as slaughterhouses) are known to be inflictors of shameful animal cruelty and suffering. Don’t believe it, ask someone who’s worked at one, nearly all will tell you not one but dozens of gruesome and ghastly stories of things done to animals they have seen and can’t forget.

As it stands there are no laws and rules that govern what can and should go on in animal farms. There is little to no accountability on the part of farmers and farm operators. “Cows that are too sick to walk are dragged to their deaths”, says Colorado State University Professor Temple Grandin, who has been at animals farms, to find ways to treat the animals more humanely.

Why aren’t factory and animal farms regulated, monitored, and heavily policed?

What should be the guidelines, and although i am biased as i’m a vegetarian, and would prefer we get rid of the whole system, and NOT USE ANIMALS FOR FOOD. I know my thinking isn’t practical and since that really is not an option (yet) what can we, as citizens, do to make sure animals don’t live and die…….in the most horrid ways.

“Why aren’t animal farms regulated, monitored, and heavily policed? I know money, money, and money.”

I know that the pursuit of the almighty dollar is the reason why animal farms aren’t regulated, but it’s not like socialist states are any better. I lived in Ukraine (in the post-soviet era, granted, but the remnants are still there) and there are just as many farms there that churn out meat like a factory would produce gears and sprockets. Under socialism, the idea isn’t profit, it’s the streamlining of food production for citizens.

I’m a vegetarian, and I of course agree that something needs to be done about animal cruelty in farms. But greed isn’t (necessarily) the motivation for efficiency over compassion.

That said, this blog is great. :-) Keep up the good work!

How can you say you are compassionate to animals when you have them killed for your own pleasure? This makes no sense to me at all.

You state that you eat eggs which means (regardless if the are so called “free range”) that you may some one to kill male babies from another species so you can eat the eggs from its mother. Not to mention forced starvation (Forced Molting), debeaking and so on.

Get your own house in order first as otherwise anything you say is bullshit.

Good post. You make some great points that most people do not fully understand.

“As it stands there are no laws and rules that govern what can and should go on in an animal farm. So it isn’t regulated, monitored, or policed. There is little to no accountability on the part of farmers and farm operators. “Cows that are too sick to walk are dragged to their deaths”, says Colorado State University Professor Temple Grandin, who has been at animals farms, to find ways to treat the animals more humanely.”

I like how you explained that. Very helpful. Thanks.
