Hi, Robin. Wow! That is quite a comment. To be honest, i don't know what phylates are. I will have to look into it.
Also i must add i'm not a nutritionist, so take whatever advice i give you, with a pound of salt.

Would you please consider writing an article on phylates, from a practical eating point of view. For example I have been taking a daily dose of one TBS of mixed whole grains together with 2 tbs ground flax seed. I have been soaking them over night. I now find that soaking them will only slightly reduce phytates. From today I will continue to soak them but also steam them (but for how long?) in the hope that will reduce the phytates and increase the bioavalability of iron. I have been corresponding with the vegetarian society of the UK and in their advice they comment:
"cooking can increase the amount of iron available (Viadel et el., 2006; Bishnoi et al., 1994). One study showed that 37 out of 48 different vegetables provided more iron after being cooked (Yang et al., 2002). The available iron in broccoli increased five-fold and in cabbage, three-fold."
As my serum iron levels are low I am concerned.

Kudos for the photo credit, I love it when I get my photos used :D
And it seems a bit freaky that I should come accross this post through Google. Cheers for the advice as well. Ever since I became a Vegetarian (about a year now) I have felt better than ever, much more energetic.
Probably because most of the conviniece foods I used to eat had meat in and I now replace them with bread and Quorn which is much better.

Right when I saw the title, I said to myself, "I bet B12 and Omega 3 are on it." Looks like I was right.
Omega 3 vitamins are becoming more and more popular, so you can easily find them at any major health store and possibly grocery store. B12 seems tougher to come across in places other than vitamins.

This was a very informative article. I just read the book In Defense of Food. It was a fascinating read on how drastically our food supply has changed in the last 50 years and what effect such change could have.

Thank you for these great tips. I thoroughly enjoy having a vegetarian lifestyle. It's so much easier on the digestive system as well as, in many cases, being kinder to the environment.
Many of us adversely affect our health because of what we eat and how we eat it. The flip side of this is that through eating nutritiously we can also optimise our health and well being.
