Vegetarian Vitamins?

What are some of the key vitamins that I need to take being a vegetarian? ( I know I am supposed to take calcium suppliments because I am very petite but I heard that you should take them with something else) I have been getting sick a lot and I think my poor nutrician has something to do with it. Also, how do you get all your protein for the day. I eat soy maybe once a day and couldn’t really see myself eating much more than that.

There is nothing you get from meat that you NEED that you don’t get from a decent balanced vegetarian diet.

There is no need for supplements.

Check out the vegetarian societies foodfacts for more information:

Thier protein page lists good sources of protein:

You need the same vitamins and nutrients as a meat eater. Anyone can suffer from difficiencies not just vegetarians. The protein scare is the biggest misconception about vegetarian diets. There are quite a bit of misconceptions so here are some web sites I think will help. The first is a list of vegetables with protein and how much the second are calcium sources in raw veggies. The third is an article about B12. It is actually a microbe found in soil and is abundant in seaweed, tempeh, miso, and root veggies. The last one is a list of foods with iron and how much.

You do NOT need to take vitamins if you are a vegetarian AS LONG AS you eat properly. It’s totally a myth that you can’t get all your daily requirements in a vegetarian diet. I’ve been a vegetarian for most of 30 years and I’ve never taken a single vitamin or supplement. I recently had a physical and my fasting blood levels were all optimal. My doctor says my vegetarian diet is what is keeping me so healthy.
