If your a vegetarian why would you want to eat veggie burgers?
If your a vegetarian why would you want to eat vegetarian food that looks like meat (eg. veggie burgers, veggie sausages, quorn) if you were a vegetarian and you don’t like meat?

Many vegetarians are vegetarians for health or ethical reasons, not because they dislike the taste of meat.
Well, most vegetarians are vegetarians not because they don’t like meat, but because they don’t like whats being done to the animals. Also a person would eat veggie burgers because A. they are healthy, B. they taste almost the same as real burgers, and C. they are the perfect thing if you like meat, but are repulsed at the idea of eating it.
It has nothing to do with “liking” the taste of meat. Many people (myself included) were raised on meat but after becoming informed have opted for a more compassionate lifestyle.
That being said veggie burgers are not only a delicious alternative… they’re healthy too.
A lot of people don’t dislike the taste, they dislike the cruelty the animals experience for that taste. If we can produce the taste without harming animals, than why not do that instead? Besides, garden burgers and bean burgers do not mimick the taste.
Johns got the right idea. Plus veggie burgers are just that…veggie burgers. A burger doesn’t need to be made out of meat to be a burger, look it up in the dictionary.
As to why you are questioning this is beyond me…don’t we want people to be vegetarians or at least eat less meat? These products help them do that! Some people with ethical issues with eating animals still miss the taste and texture of meat and this is a great way for them to not be tempted to eat meat.
It’s a wonderful thing, IMO.
Even though I don’t like the taste or texture of meat, haven’t since I was in a high chair. I still understand why the products are there. In fact, if they weren’t- I wouldn’t be able to be a veg*n and make veggie meals for my fiance without him wanting to make some meat on the side. Boca Crumbles are the best, in that respect.
Many vegetarians are vegetarian for ethical reasons, not because they don’t like the taste of meat. Personally, I’m not keen on the taste of most meats, but I eat Quorn because I actually prefer the taste of these to real meat. It is also possible to buy vegetarian burgers and sausages which are not meant to taste like meat, such as mushroom burgers, or cheese and potato sausages – even though they are called burgers and sausages and made to look like the real thing, they bear no resemblance to meat taste wise. :]
As a former chef they use the meat description for these product solely as a marketing action, they could call them veggie patties, veggie links or rolls, and qourn is a mushroom and fermented grain product, alot of this was done for esoteric appeal and for a more pleasant situation, and most people veg or non veg associate things in certain ways, I make my own veggie burgers/patties and sausage from tofu, veg and TVP.
Figure it this way it was the easiest way to market the product to both group sand it is more harmonious to have them associated with a familiar product.
The word “burger” or “pattie” does not = the word “meat”.
If you look at a hamburger itself, it looks nothing like where it came from. The point is that it is shaped rather conveniently to fit inside a bun.
You can make lentil burgers, soy burgers, tofu burgers etc. Get it?
Besides that fact, most veggie burgers don’t taste like meat. As for the quorn (which I hear do)- I’m not sure why people eat it other than the fact that it comes from fermented mushrooms (and fermented foods are good for you). I guess we all have our preferences.
Because they are convenient & easy to cook.
I like the fermented rice & soy protein sausages put out by Sanitarium in Australia.
That’s exactly the question I asked myself a few months ago. I used to live on those things. Two out of three meals every day had some form of imitation meat.
I cut those out of my diet and have never felt healthier.
Why do people eat ground-up cow burgers shaped to look like veggie patties? Why do people eat pigs’ flesh mixed with other trimmings shaped to look like veggie sausages? Many foods can be shaped into “burgers” and “sausages”, among other things. Vegetarians and vegans just use plant foods to mimic the shape of the conventionally accepted animal foods.
As to why we eat analogues, well, they taste good and they don’t have the saturated fat, cholesterol, hormones, antibiotics, fecal matter, and cruelty that come in every chunk of food called “meat”.
Some of them actually taste good.
people want to veggie burgers because they hate the taste of meat i mean just because we are vegetarian doesn’t mean we can’t have the same thing as people who eat so we have vegetables instead
When I first decided to be a vegetarian, I loved the taste of meat. But I didn’t love the fact that an animal had to die for me to eat it. So instead of eating a beef hamburger, I would eat a veggie burger. I don’t eat much of that stuff now for health reasons, but I see no problem with eating fake meat.
Nobodys a vegetarian because they don’t like meat. They just don’t eat meat then, but they’ll still eat gelatin and whey. Some vegetarians get freaked out by meat substitutes, some don’t.
Some people don’t eat meat because they dislike meat but the majority actually like the taste and don’t eat it for ethical or religious reasons.
I’ve been a vegetarian for 17 months and I like the taste of meat. I simply don’t eat it because I don’t feel as if I need to sacrifice an animal’s life just for my satisfaction.
