First I must say it’s a great idea for a cookbook…those who want an entirely meat-free or mostly meat free diet have great success on hearty and taste soups and stews…I cook them year round even though I live in the heat of Texas. Afterall, I eat them indoors in the air-conditioning and it’s wonderful comfort food!
Because of this, I had great hope for this cookbook, however I think it needs more work. It’s more of a booklet than a cookbook. It would be fine at only 96 pages if each of those contained a recipe, but instead there were all kinds of other tips and stories and clip art and suggestions filling up the pages and then, to make matters worse, the recipes were printed in a very large font so that what would normally take up only one page of a recipe book filtered out into several so that, in its entirety, you received VERY few recipes in this cookbook–especially because the pages are not normal width either! (How to soak beans really doesn’t need a few pages anyway for the endless bean soups)It seems recipes were stretched out more than needed in order to complete the book or get it out?
However, the large font was good for me in that I didn’t need any reading glasses at all! (grin)
Add to that that many of the recipes I tried were bland or can be found anywhere. I love cream of broccoli and cream of asparagus soup and miso, for example, but since they can be found on any recipe website you open and this contains so few recipes, I wished that there were some hearty and unique recipes I couldnt find elsewhere that also weren’t ones I wouldn’t want like the cold celery soup and the carrot and beet soup.
I think a quick trip to the internet website and I could print out the 7 recipes I kept from the book…I saved these and put in my recipe binder.
However, the book is easily enough to understand for even the most novice of cooks so it may be a good starter soup book…if it’s reprinted with more recipes I’d also give it another shot.

Soups and stews are so great. They are perfect for vegetarians! We love to make them when we have some vegetables that are getting old. You can make some great stews out of them!
