How to pick the right Vegetarian Culinary School….

Going to a vegetarian culinary school is a great alternative to going to a traditional culinary school especially when they want to provide healthier and more ecologically friendly foods. These provide the same job opportunities as going through a traditional culinary school without all the guilt of killing loving creatures. These schools often cost much less than other schools as well. What should you look for though in vegetarian culinary school?

Step 1

Always consider the accreditation first and foremost. The accreditation of a school may stop you from getting financial aid and provide you with an in ability to find a job later on. If they don’t list this on their website, then ask, and don’t go off their word about job placement.

Step 2

Job placement claims are a good way in a bad economy to sucker people into degrees that are worthless. They may say something along the lines of , ” We place over 80 percent of our students in a career in the restaurant industry.” Now that sounds great at first before you realize that this includes dish washers, bussers, cashiers, and janitors. Look up the school on Facebook or Myspace and find some prior graduates. They will tell you exactly where they are working and how easy it is to find a job in the field. After you complete this step check out the instructors.

Step 3

These are the people who are teaching you how to get into this niche industry. You should take the time and find out about them. Have they ever owned a restaurant , have they ever worked for a restaurant that’s still in business, and why might have led them to teaching. All of these questions will provide you with who you are learning from and give you a good idea of the quality of education you will be receiving.

If you remember these simple tips then you will be set to pick the perfect vegetarian culinary school. Remember your instincts in this search, if it doesn’t feel right to you then don’t do it. There is no reason why you can’t achieve your goal as a vegetarian chef as long as you remember these steps.

Faced with hamburger upon hamburger, looking through the menu board to find vegetarian options can seem impossible. Even salads at McDonalds are often topped with chicken or bacon, leaving traditional choices for vegetarians narrowed even further. Take heart, though, because there are a few vegetarian fast food options for vegetarians not wanting to gorge on French fries alone.

Here are some McDonalds Vegetarian Options:

1. Premium Caesar Salad

McDonald’s vegetarian visitors can get their fill on greens and other vegetables by choosing the Premium Caesar Salad, because this salad doesn’t have chicken. The Premium Caesar Salad has mixed greens, tomatoes, carrots and Parmesan cheese, so vegetable and dairy needs are taken care of with this colorful mix.UPDATE: the dressing does have anchovies, our bad: anchovy powder (dextrin, anchovy extract, salt) from this pdf

2. Premium Southwest Salad

For a more exciting and filling salad, vegetarians visiting McDonald’s can opt for the Premium Southwest Salad, which has greens, corn, black beans, poblano peppers, and tortilla strips. You can get your fill on veggies along with protein from the beans with this salad.

3. Fruit and Walnut Salad

While it’s not a full-size salad, the fruit and walnut salad will give McDonald’s visitors the choice of having yogurt, walnuts, and fresh fruit. Veggies won’t be taken care of with this salad, but fruit, dairy, and protein are.

4. Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait

Even though it’s on the dessert menu, the Fruit ‘n Yogurt Parfait is a perfect option for vegetarians visiting McDonald’s. Strawberries, blueberries, yogurt, and granola are filling and healthy options, and are perfect when eaten after one of McDonald’s salads.

5. Apple Dippers

Eaten without the caramel you have a sliced apple, plain and simple. Apples are perfect snacks, healthy and sweet even without the added sugar of the dipping sauce that comes with them. As an added bonus, no getting apple stuck in your teeth, and these slices won’t brown waiting for you to eat them!

Give me five mins and I’ll give you 1 perfect reason to become vegetarian.

While fish may serve as the key dietary supply of the long-chain omega-3s eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid, which has been shown to be important in supporting brain health, low intake of eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid in vegetarians won’t adversely affect mood, based on a new study (Nutr J. 2010;9:26. DOI:10.1186/1475-2891-9-26).

A study team from Arizona State University conducted a cross-sectional study to compare the mood of vegetarians who never eat fish with the mood of healthy omnivorous adults.

An overall total of 138 healthy Seventh Day Adventist adults residing in Arizona and California (64 vegetarians and 79 non-vegetarians) were enrolled in the study and completed a health history questionnaire, food frequency questionnaire and a couple psychometric tests, the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and also the Profile of Mood States..

Vegetarians had significantly lower mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and the omega-6 arachidonic acid; they had higher intakes of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and the omega-6 linoleic acid.

“Seed oils are the richest sources of α-linolenic acid, notably those of rapeseed (canola), soybeans, walnuts, flaxseed (Linseed oil), clary sage seeds, perilla, chia, and hemp.”

However, the vegetarians also reported considerably less negative emotion than omnivores in both psychometric tests. Mean total psychometric scores were positively linked to the mean intakes of eicosapentaenoic acid, docosahexaenoic acid and arachidonic acid , and inversely in connection with alpha-linolenic acid and linolenic acid intake.

The research team noted there is also the chance that vegetarians may make better dietary choices and may generally be healthier and happier.

If you want to give it a try, this is a good example of vegetarian recipe according to Italian cuisine

Italian Spaghetti with Zucchini

Ingredients:

* 17 oz. Spaghetti

* 24 oz. Of thin sliced zucchini

* 1 / 2 cup walnuts oil

* Some basil leaves

* 2 tablespoons of yeast flakes

* Salt and pepper

In a skillet or frying pan heat the oil and when hot, add garlic and zucchini. Raise the heat and stir often to finish their cooking. They need to be golden and crispy outside and tender inside. Cook the pasta, drain and sauté in pan with zucchini, basil and yeast. Serve immediately.

Zucchini contain fewer calories and also have no fat. But they are a good source of potassium, vitamin e, vitamin c, folate, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Many of these nutrients are extremely sensitive to heat and to enjoy their benefits you need to find a quick way to cook or even eat raw in salads.

From the therapeutic point of view, zucchini have laxative, refreshing, anti-inflammatory, diuretic and detoxifying action.

Fried rice is one of those lovely comforting foods that everyone in the world seems to like. No one is intimidated by fried rice. Somehow all these rogue ingredients have crept into restaurant versions over the years, such as corn, peas, ham and the like. I find the trick with fried rice is to keep it really simple and traditional – just some really fresh and fluffy eggs, onion, bacon or Chinese sausage, ginger and some spring onions.

Vegetable fried rice is a light-weight alternative to heavy food. Vegetable Fried Rice is what all of you must have cooked and eaten at home or in restaurants. It’s a really simple dish to make, and healthy too because of all the veggies that it has. I describe my recipe for making Vegetable Fried Rice which goes extremely well with my Vegetable Fried rice. Here is the recipe for my version of Chinese style Vegetable Fried Rice. Vegetable Fried Rice is Very easy and very tasty too. It is best eaten with tomato ketchup or a hot and sweet sauce.

This fried rice dish combines the nutty flavor of fried rice with the fresh taste of bell peppers, baby peas, and other vegetables. This dish is actually a lot simpler than most of us perceive it to be. Fried rice is cooked on a high flame, and the trick is to cut the vegetables small, so that they do not remain raw inside.
