I’m a wanna-be geek and as such love things like this. They have so much more than coasters though – they have adorable heart-shaped pendants, business card cases, gift certificates and lots more.

Happy Earth Day 2009!

In honor of Earth Day 2009 – i have added the Earth 911 recycling widget to my resources page. It allows you to easily search for your local recycling facility through my blog.

Simply enter in your zip code or city and state and the name of the item you’re recycling – then hit the magic enter button. You’re now greeted with a list of local centers that gladly accept the item and will recycle it for you.

I entered in my town’s zip code (38967) and received 2 pages worth of centers who accept (water bottles), now to call them and find out their hours of operation. As i live in a small town, the nearest recycling facility to me is over 52 miles away. Wowza!

I have two bags worth of water bottles that i’ve been meaning to properly dispose of, but am wondering if the long 52 mile drive is going to cancel out any eco benefit. Hmmmn. What to do, what to do?

Oh! and for the record – i don’t buy water bottles. My roommate does, but she has cut down quite a bit.

I was born in Chicago, IL but both my parents are from Puerto Rico. One thing i remember about my mom’s cooking is rice, beans, and a host of yummy root vegetables from PR.

Which root vegetables?

Yuca a/k/a Cassava, then there are green plantains, batata, yautia, llame and a host of others. All yummy healthy and 100% vegetarian.

I want to get a resource page going on the different vegetables and fruits from Puerto Rico, complete with nutrition details. I have to admit i will have to do research on this, as i have lost touch with my roots and don’t know. Yes, I deserve a wet noodle beating for this disregard.

Aside from the fact that they are eco friendly, i just really dig the look and style of this brand. They tend to be fresh hip and comfy. And just in is the Spring 2009 style called Simple Carat.

The vegan sneaker is green which means it was made using sustainable materials including an organic cotton lining, PET laces, and a rubber outsole made from recycled car tires.

The Simple Carat Sneakercomes in about 6 colors, but my fave is the one pictured above in brown with a pink side stripe.

What is a Tag?

Essentially a tag is like a web chain that moves from blogger to blogger. The purpose of the overall tag is to reveal a little something something about yourself. I’m not very good at revealing, so this might not go very well. With this tag, i’m to reveal 6 random things about me, and then also list 6 cool blogs. So here it goes.

1. I’m Latina, my parents both originate from the warm Island of Puerto Rico.
2. I was born and raised in the most beautiful and spectacularly awesome city in the Universe, The Windy City – Chicago.
3. I took an acting class in college years ago. Was too shy to do the wacky stage exercises. We had to go on the stage and go buck wild crazy.
4. I sold all my things in 2006 and moved to a totally DIFFERENT state in a major life change, and although i don’t like it. I have learned loads and have zero regrets. Life goes on just the same, but i do hope to be back in my beautiful Chicago, sooner rather than later.
5. My nephew turned 3 this past March.
6. I have not one, not two, but 3 cats, which i absolutely, completely, and totally ADORE. The eldest is 10 years old this year. Happy 10th Cuba!
